LAURA BOGOS
PAINTS
Working primarily through paint, my artwork is an ever evolving relationship with beauty, femininity, the natural world, and the collective human psyche. My artistic influences include mythology and magic, themes of the divine feminine, motherhood, sexual expression, feline imagery, pleasure, rage, ethereal beauty, and desire. Having a background in Art History and Art Education, I am especially passionate about ancient art and art movements from the turn of the 20th century – in particular Expressionism, Art Nouveau, and Symbolism. My large-scale oil paintings tend to be more sculptural in technique and intense in expression, and I enjoy losing myself in the colour and form of my subject matter, letting the creative process unfold spontaneously as I paint. On a smaller scale, my watercolour and mixed media work tends to be more illustrative and sketchier, often frankly emotive, playful, and even cartoony. My artistic pursuits balance the vulnerability of creative communication and inner, self-motivated exploration. Through artistic creation, I seek to unfold and expose an authentic visual depiction of both my inner psyche and the beauty of the world around me.
