Join us on a journey from the Ocean to the beautiful hills of the Dandenong Ranges. Beaches and temperate rainforests are the inspiration behind this feast of textile textures. Set in an ever changing world – some things remain timeless.

Experience the artists talk (11:00am) or get hands on with a free workshop (11:30am, bookings essential) on Saturday 25 November. This is an open invitation to art enthusiasts to immerse themselves in the delicate and captivating world of the artists, where nature and artistry blend seamlessly in a celebration of our environment’s wonders.

Archiving the Future

An exhibition, installation and public program in celebration of Burrinja’s 25th year birthday

Looking back whilst also walking forward: this special project brings together a suite of objects and artefacts found in the depths of the Burrinja archive – from the mundane to the dazzling, the everyday to the extraordinary. What stories of people and place are hidden within the objects that we keep?

In the aerie gallery you will discover Our Future Artists Gallery Take Over. We have invited a selection of artists that have a relationship with Burrinja, whether it be through locality or through aligned creative ethos, to be part of dreaming about our future. These artists will be creating works in progress and experimental presentations throughout the season, being informed by be informed by the speculative piece of writing by local writer, Lia Hills, Where One Ends the Other Has Already Begun: Artist’s statement.

Artists include Emiko Artemis, Skubz Mope, Renate Crow, Lisa Von Muller, Macarena Ocea and more.

HOW TO APPLY TO EXHIBIT

The aerie Members Gallery, found on the first floor of Burrinja, is a dedicated exhibition program for aerie members only. There will be six  (6) opportunities to exhibit per year.

When
Applications are open at all times and will be programmed in 6 month seasons.

The 2023 season 2 and 2024 season 1 program is currently open for applications. Successful applicants will be informed within 2 months of applications being received.

Application process
Please complete the application form including: an exhibition proposal, technical requirements, promotional information and images.

Eligibility

  • Must be a fully paid aerie member or permanent studio artist
  • Can be a solo or group show (no more than 6 artists per group and all paid aerie members)
  • The number of works, installation of 3D works and hanging objects are subject to approval by Burrinja staff.

INFORMATION FOR EXHIBITING ARTISTS

What aerie provides:

  • FREE exhibition in ACE Gallery, a professional standard exhibition space on level 1 of Burrinja with quality lighting and museum standard walls.
  • Assistance with the install and deinstall of your show
  • Design of exhibition marketing collateral (in line with the ACE Gallery brand)
  • Promotion of your show via our extensive social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram)
  • Email advice and support in preparation for your show, including: assistance with writing (for media release & e-invite)
  • Invigilation of your exhibition from ground level foyer
  • Printed artwork labels and price list

 

What the exhibitor(s) provide:

  • Print and distribution of exhibition marketing collateral
  • It is the exhibitor(s) responsibility to repair walls to return to how you found them.
  • Catering and staffing of any affiliated events such as openings, public programming artist talks etc. must be coordinated by the artist, alcohol may be served at no charge. (Extra charges apply if events are programmed out of Burrinja hours)

 

Things to note:

  • Artwork can be for sale with a 30% commission to Burrinja.
  • Gallery is public access space to the theatre and Lyre Room, and as such can be a busy thoroughfare. Considerations need to be taken when installing 3D, fragile items (ceramics) etc. subject to approval.
  • If the exhibitor(s) choose to hold an event outside Burrinja hours (or to have an expected attendance exceeding 50 ppl), there is an extra fee of $47 per hour (+GST, minimum 3 hours) to cover the costs of a duty manager on site.
  • Alcohol may be served at no charge in accordance to the Burrinja liquor license during openings and public programs.
